PCM PWA Configuration Manager

Set up Project Web App once. Then move it, file by file.

PCM exports and imports Project Web App configuration. Migrate your setup from development to test to production, or build a standard PWA template and roll it out to another environment. It is free.

What it moves

The settings nobody wants to redo by hand.

Each type of configuration exports to its own JSON file, which you can keep, review and import elsewhere.

  • Enterprise custom fields
  • Lookup tables
  • Lookup table entries
  • Enterprise project types
  • Project detail pages
  • Site columns
  • Content types
  • Resources (non-user)

How it works

Export first. Then import.

PCM is a set of HTML and JavaScript files that you deploy into your Project Web App. It runs entirely in the browser: it reads through the REST API and writes through JSOM.

  1. Deploy

Use the included PowerShell script, or copy the files into a document library by hand. The manual route is only a few steps.

  2. Export

Open PCM inside PWA, accept the licence terms and export each configuration type to a file.

  3. Import

In the target environment, import each file in dependency order, for example lookup tables before their entries.

  4. Repeat

Use the same files to promote changes from development to test to production.

Before you start

What you need, and what it won’t do.

Good to know. PCM is honest about its limits, and so are we:

  • Each type imports on its own, without its related types, so import in dependency order.
  • Imported project detail pages arrive as empty pages, because Microsoft’s API does not expose their web parts.
  • PWA views cannot be exported or imported yet.

Always export what is already in an environment before you import over the top of it.
